Albany Memorial Day Parade 2025

The Mohawk District is looking to recognize those dedicated Scouting volunteers who give above and beyond their normal ‘one hour per week’ of service. Awards will be presented for service performed and achievement attained in calendar year 2024. Deadline to submit award nominations is midnight on Sunday, May 25th. Awards will be presented at our District’s Annual BBQ and Awards Recognition on Tuesday, June 10th at 7 PM, at the First Reformed Church, 2172 W Glenville Rd, Amsterdam, NY 12010.

Our District Awards Committee is calling for nominations for the following recognition categories:

  • Unit Flint and Steel Awards. We all know that flint and steel are used to generate the spark during fire building, so this award recognizes one registered or non-registered volunteer who has provided the spark to ignite the fire within his or her unit. Noble qualities include: demonstrated high energy, enthusiasm, passion, and commitment to the Scouts and program within your Pack, Troop, or Post. Please submit only one nominee per unit; usually obtained via consensus of the unit Key 3. This award does not need approval / voting from the District Awards Committee so submit now and arrange to have your honoree and their supporters from your unit attend the recognition event.
  • Cubmaster of the Year – the outstanding Cubmaster of the District for 2024 (should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a registered Cubmaster).
  • Cub Scout Program Award – recognizing a particularly noteworthy leader and program within a Pack in 2024.
  • Scoutmaster of the Year – the outstanding Scoutmaster of the District for 2024 (should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a registered Scoutmaster).
  • Scouts BSA Program Award – recognizing a particularly noteworthy leader and program within a Troop in 2024.
  • Advisor of the Year – the outstanding Exploring Advisor of the District for 2024 (should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a registered Advisor).
  • Exploring Program Award – recognizing a particularly noteworthy leader and program within a Post in 2024.
  • Clifford R. Semerad Memorial Award for Lifetime Achievement – recognizing a Scouter with at least 25 years’ service who has exemplified the Scout Oath and Law while demonstrating servant leadership to Scouts in our District. This award honors Twin Rivers Council’s First Council Commissioner and life-long devoted Scouter Cliff Semerad.
  • District Award of Merit – awarded by a District to registered Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature at the district level. This is the only award that may not be submitted using our online form. The District Award of Merit application may be downloaded here. Please scan and email the completed application to Greg Szczesny by Sunday, May 30th.
