Greetings Scouts, Parents, and Leaders: My name is Ron Withrow and I am the Twin Rivers Council Chair on Scouting with Special Needs and Disabilities. I am very excited to be serving you in this important role where I can bring to bear my experiences as a father of a scout with special needs and disabilities, a Special Olympics coach, and as a volunteer board of directors member for a non-profit community service program that focuses on improving the quality of life for adults with special needs and disabilities; knowledge and experiences I will leverage in my commitment to empower and support you.
Scouting America’s Core Values encompass the inclusion of members with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities as fully participating members in the Scouting movement. My role is to proactively and re-actively support and team with troops by providing training, support materials, consultation, and problem solving. Please visit the Twin Rivers Council Scouting with Special Needs web page to access the numerous support materials provided by Scouting America. My contact information is also provided there.
In closing, the success of this program is fully dependent on meeting the needs of our Scouts with special needs and those who support them. To that end I would greatly appreciate your input regarding needed training, focus areas, concerns, etc. I am grateful for this opportunity and looking forward to serving you!
